Spiced Apple Crumble

Servings: 6-8

Filling:

6 medium Honeycrisp apples, peeled and diced

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Juice of 2 lemons

Topping:

1 cup quick oats

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup light brown sugar

1/2 cup dark brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/8 teaspoon salt

Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Begin by preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).

For the filling: In a medium bowl, combine the diced apples, flour, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and lemon juice. Toss well to coat the apples thoroughly. Transfer the apple mixture to an 8×8-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

For the topping: In another medium bowl, mix together the oats, flour, both sugars, baking powder, cinnamon, melted butter, and salt. Use a fork to combine the ingredients until crumbly. Sprinkle this topping over the apple mixture in the baking dish.

Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Allow it to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
