Time: 55 minutes

Yield: 10 servings

Ingredients

Casserole:• 1 lb loaf of sourdough or French bread• 8 large eggs• 2 cups of 2% or whole milk• 1/2 cup heavy cream• 1/2 cup granulated sugar• 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar• 2 tablespoons vanilla extract• 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamonTopping:• 3/4 cup all-purpose flour• 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar• 2 teaspoons cinnamon• 1/4 teaspoon salt• 1/2 cup butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

Step 1

Begin by lightly greasing your casserole dish or applying non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2

Cut the bread into 1-2 inch cubes and spread them evenly across the bottom of the dish.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl or a stand mixer bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Pour this mixture over the cubed bread, ensuring that every piece of bread is soaked.

Step 4

Cover the casserole and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight.

Step 5

For the topping, you can prepare it just before baking or the night before. To make the topping, mix all dry ingredients in a bowl and then cut in the butter until crumbly, similar to a streusel texture.

Step 6

When you’re ready to cook, preheat your oven to 350°F.

Step 7

Sprinkle the prepared streusel topping evenly over the casserole.

Step 8

For a creamy texture, bake for 45 minutes. For a firmer casserole, increase the time to 1 hour. Once baked, remove from the oven and serve warm.
