1. High-Quality SPF
With the arrival of warm, sunny days, it can feel like we are emerging from a long winter. Our skin, similarly, also needs a refresh. While there’s no need to completely refresh our makeup collections, introducing some new natural products can greatly benefit our skin.

Using sunscreen during the summer is essential, but selecting the right product is key. The Environmental Working Group suggests using mineral-based sunscreens in a cream form rather than in powders or sprays for the safest protection. Check your current sunscreen brand’s rating at ewg.org/skindeep.
It may be surprising, but higher SPF values do not always provide better protection and can sometimes lead to overconfidence, causing people to extend their sun exposure without reapplying frequently. Instead, opt for a lower SPF and make regular applications.

2. Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera has been utilized for thousands of years, with evidence suggesting its depiction in ancient Egyptian art more than 6,000 years ago!
Presently, one of the most popular uses of aloe is in skincare during summer months. Its gel is excellent for cooling and calming skin that has been exposed to harsh summer conditions. It’s a great product to always have on hand.

3. Essential Oils

Many individuals are increasingly wary of conventional bug repellents due to their chemical contents and potential negative effects on health and the environment. However, several essential oils like eucalyptus, clove, and citronella serve as effective natural insect deterrents.
Keep in mind that essential oils may not be suitable for everyone—consulting with a healthcare professional is advised for those with medical conditions. Essential oils should be diluted with a carrier oil like jojoba or sweet almond before topical application. Alternatively, many health stores offer natural insect repellents that incorporate essential oils.

4. Bronzer

For a natural sun-kissed look without harmful chemicals, select a bronzer. It can be applied to areas of the face that would typically receive sunlight, such as the cheekbones, forehead, nose, and chin. Consult with an expert at your local natural health retailer to find your ideal shade.

5. Sunless Tanner

For a tan without the dangers of skin cancer and sunburn, consider using a natural sunless tanner. If you are new to this, here are some pro tips:
- Begin with exfoliating your skin to eliminate dead cells.
- Apply in sections using circular motions.
- Remember to wash your hands frequently to avoid orange palms!
- Use a light hand if unsure; applying less product can lead to a more natural appearance.

6. Lip Balm with SPF

Many people overlook lip care when considering sun protection, but lips are just as vulnerable. While chapped lips are typically a winter issue, they can actually worsen in the summer heat. Choose a natural lip balm with SPF and remember to reapply frequently.

7. Hair Treatment or Leave-In Conditioner
Exposure to chlorine from swimming pools, saltwater, and sunlight can take a toll on hair health. A natural leave-in conditioner can offer the moisture needed to revive thirsty strands. A hair mask can provide additional nourishment. Seek out products rich in vitamins and botanicals, such as chamomile or lavender extracts, alongside nourishing plant oils.

8. Body and Foot Cream
While many prioritize hydration during winter, it’s equally critical to moisturize during summer. With sandal season approaching, it’s particularly essential to care for our feet. Coconut oil is an excellent natural moisturizer for dry skin—can be used alone or in combination with other lotions, having been used for centuries to soothe and hydrate dry, irritated skin.

9. Tinted Moisturizer

In the warmer months, a tinted moisturizer is a lighter alternative to heavy foundations typically used in winter. This sheer coverage works great by itself or can be paired with a natural facial powder for a polished look. After all, no one wants a thick, caked-on makeup while lounging at the beach!

10. Blotting Papers

Summer heat brings the perennial beauty concern of facial shine, often exacerbated by high humidity levels. While individuals with oily skin might struggle with shine throughout the year, even those with normal or dry skin can experience it during the summer months.
Blotting papers are an effective way to absorb excess shine without irritating sensitive skin. Simply dab them on your face as needed (rubbing may disrupt makeup) and maintain a fresh look all day long!

11. A Seasonal Skincare Routine

Have you noticed your skin feeling more oily during the summer heat? It’s not just your imagination. Research indicates that skin can alter with the seasons, producing increased oil and sebum in response to humidity.
Luckily, it’s simple to adjust our skincare regimens to accommodate these shifts. If you use a cream during the winter, switch to a lightweight, oil-free lotion for warmer months.

12. Quality Sunglasses

Nothing compares to the style of sunglasses for protecting your eyes and preventing wrinkles at the same time!
Choose sunglasses wisely by ensuring they provide 99 to 100 percent protection against both UVA and UVB rays, steering clear of options labeled “cosmetic,” which may lack proper UV shielding. Opt for larger lenses, and wraparound designs tend to offer the best protection.
