Tribe Vibes

Liz Moody’s mission is to inspire individuals to embrace their best lives while enjoying the process.

A vibrant wellness advocate, Moody is dedicated to providing research-supported advice, strategies, and tools that empower people to thrive both physically and mentally. Whether she’s dispelling misconceptions about skincare through her dynamic Instagram reels or engaging in thoughtful conversations with top gut health specialists on her acclaimed podcast, Healthier Together, she embodies a “big sister meets science” persona. With a combination of warmth and authenticity, she transforms complex research into practical, relatable guidance.

While advocating for various self-care practices—from daily circadian walks to green smoothie indulgence—the cornerstone of Moody’s wellness philosophy is aptly encapsulated in her podcast title: connection.

“I believe that connection is a vital yet often overlooked aspect of wellness; it can sometimes hold more significance for me than any nutritional advice or fitness routine I might share,” she explains.

Moody’s perspective is backed by research. As highlighted by Harvard researcher Robert Waldinger, MD, on Healthier Together, the longest ongoing study on happiness (lasting 80 years) has concluded that the cornerstone of human flourishing is establishing strong relationships.

With her focus on fostering connections, it’s no surprise that Moody’s podcast, with millions of downloads, and her Instagram, boasting hundreds of thousands of followers, have evolved into hubs of community support.

Transforming anxiety into action

Moody’s personal wellness journey began during a time of profound isolation. After relocating from the U.S. to London with her husband, who was pursuing an intensive graduate degree, she found herself alone at home, grappling with the solitude of her choice to leave her journalism career to focus on writing a novel.

This isolation triggered rising anxiety, resulting in panic attacks whenever she attempted to venture outside. “During those months, where I struggled to even get out of bed, I began contemplating all the essential elements that would contribute to my best life,” she recalls, diving deep into research on neuroscience and nutrition to discover ways to enhance her situation.

Building an engaged audience

Following this transformative experience, Moody took on the role of food director at the wellness platform mindbodygreen, authored two cookbooks—Glow Pops (focused on superfood popsicle recipes) and Healthier Together (featuring recipes for pairs)—and launched her podcast. In January 2020, she transitioned to a full-time career as a wellness content creator.

Just two months later, as the worldwide pandemic led to lockdowns, Moody had concerns about her mental health but leaned into fostering community through her expanding Instagram presence. “I focused on creating content that resonated with my needs and those of others,” she explains. “It became a significant source of connection during that time.”

As her follower count grew, her account transformed into a vibrant space for interaction. “I cherish seeing my followers engage in the comment section of my posts, offering support to one another,” Moody shares.

Many of her Instagram followers also listen to her podcast, which she believes creates a more profound connection than social media. “When listeners have me in their ear for an hour, it feels like we’re friends when they approach me in person,” she adds.

Moody is thrilled to see Healthier Together podcast clubs forming across the U.S., where members convene to discuss episodes and encourage one another in health-oriented pursuits. “Knowing that I’ve played a small part in instigating this community brings me immense joy and satisfaction,” she notes.

Connecting with universal wants

Although Moody emphasizes that each individual’s “best life” is unique to their circumstances, she has a talent for selecting podcast themes that resonate widely. She consciously avoids hopping on the latest wellness trends, believing that “pursuing popularity for the sake of likes and shares diverts from the ultimate goal of supporting my community,” she asserts.

The fundamental human craving for meaningful relationships is a timeless subject. Moody recognizes that while we inherently seek connection, many might feel embarrassed about admitting it, believing they are alone in their feelings of loneliness or lack of a solid friendship network.

“A significant part of my role is to dismantle the stigma around connection and assert, ‘We are all seeking meaningful bonds,’” she states.

Liz’s Gut Health Essentials

Gut health is a recurring theme in Moody’s podcast. Here are her top recommendations for maintaining it:

  • Incorporate fermented foods: These are rich in probiotics, which aid in digestive health.
  • Include a vegetable in every meal: Plant-based foods support a diverse microbiome.
  • Reduce stress: High stress can disrupt gut bacteria balance.

Mindful Social Media Engagement

Here’s how Moody suggests fostering a healthy relationship with social media:

  • Curate your “Follows”: Mute or unfollow accounts that don’t enhance your wellbeing.
  • Become a creator instead of a consumer: Engaging in creative content can empower you.
  • Establish boundaries around your phone usage: Avoid checking your phone first thing in the morning and keep it away from your bedroom at night.

Avoiding Wellness Isolation

Moody observes that self-care routines can sometimes hinder our capacity to foster healthy relationships. This may involve avoiding social gatherings due to dietary restrictions or sacrificing quality time with loved ones for a lengthy wellness regimen. “If you find that such practices are holding you back from your best life, then I believe that is no longer truly wellness,” she asserts.
