Ghostly Graveyard Cake

1 box of chocolate cake mix

10 chocolate creme cookies

1 cup of black melting chips

1 cup of red melting chips

1 cup of heavy whipping cream

3 cans of buttercream icing

1 bottle of purple food coloring

1 bottle of black food coloring

Skull sprinkles

Candy tombstones and bones

Begin by preparing the cake mix as directed on the packaging using three 6-inch baking pans. Once baked, allow the cakes to cool completely before removing them from the pans.

In a zip-top bag, crush the chocolate creme cookies using a rolling pin; set the crumbs aside.

In separate small containers, place the black melting chips in one and the red melting chips in another.

Microwave the heavy whipping cream for one and a half minutes. Divide the heated cream equally between the two bowls of chips and stir until fully melted; set aside.

Once the cakes have cooled, place one layer on a cake board and add a small amount of buttercream icing to help it adhere. Level the cakes with a bread knife.

Stack the first layer of cake on the board and apply a thin layer of icing. Place the second cake layer on top, repeating the process with another thin layer of icing. Top it off with the final layer, then cover the entire cake with a light coat of icing. Freeze it for 15 minutes.

In a small bowl, combine two parts purple food coloring with one part black food coloring. Use this mixture to frost the cake with a rich purple hue. Create texture on the sides of the cake using a grooved scraper and level the top with an angled spatula.

Sprinkle the skull decorations around the edges of the cake. Using a piping bag with a small tip, drizzle the black mixture around the top edges. Then, follow up with the red mixture for added effect.

Finish by sprinkling chocolate cookie crumbs on top, and decorate with tombstones and bone candies for a truly haunting dessert.
